Your first year of School presents a lot of new experiences: living away from home, meeting new people, and managing your own time. Prepare for life on campus by figuring out what to bring, how to handle challenging circumstances, and what you can do to manage your workload.

Student Activities

The Student Activities Office strives to provide an atmosphere that fosters respect, values all individuals, appreciates diversity and celebrates the contribution of all. We emphasize the need to recognize that the School community is diverse in age, culture, and ethnicity and that all members contribute to the advancement of society. We promote the idea that student interaction through clubs and social gatherings, student council, and participation in school governance, community service activities, and sports are essential to the learning process.

Social Life

When you’re in school, balancing your social life with the demands of your teachers can feel daunting. It feels like spending time socializing hurts your academic career and vice versa; you wish you just had more time. In truth, the real balance comes with being more efficient with the time you do have and better scheduling. You can achieve this by being more efficient when doing schoolwork, setting realistic goals, and making your social life feel more fulfilling.

Managing Academics

During your first year of School, you will be juggling many new experiences: new friends, new living situations, new activities, new classes, and new teachers. While a lot of these new experiences are exciting, they can challenge your time-management skills and academic adjustment. Even if you balanced a full course load and extracurricular activities in middle school, in high school you alone are responsible for deciding what your schedule will hold and manage your time accordingly. Set up some structure by giving yourself specific study hours, setting some goals for time management, and sticking to them.
